I’ve had many exasperated looks from family members about my 99p MGB (all in good humour of course). I think next time I get a comment about rust I might show them this...
Suddenly I don't feel like replacing both sills, both floorpans and both front wings is so much work...

That’ll buff out.

That’ll buff out of existence.
FTFY ;)

99p? You were seen coming.

Nah that one pictured is on sale for a scarcely believable £250!
Check out the tag for my (slightly) less questionable purchase...

That’s less a car, more the
suggestion
of one. Granted my Ranchero wasn’t far from that once the several gallons of Bondo were displaced...

How's the Ranchero coming along? I haven't seen any updates recently but I may well have missed them....

I prefer to think of it as “a car-like substance.”

If you saw the post in which I’d got my shoes on, (the new white line tires), I don’t think I’ve done an Oppo post since that one. I’ve got a piece of floor into the back now, I’ve got rollcage tubing bent up, I’ve cut the bottom off one of my doors to shorten it up and done some work on that, and some minor work on the tailgate and front buper valance and hood(bonnet).

Gotcha. Yeah I've done a whole host of little jobs, mainly on the rest of the fleet, but nothing worthy of a post. Hopefully I'll get the chance to do some work on it when I've got the Alfa and the MG F back on the road :)

Anything can be saved and fixed with enough time and money.
The real question is whether it’s worth the time and money fixing it compared to spending a bit more upfront for a better one with fewer issues and in better condition.
My guess is that it will cost more to fix/restore that pile of rust you have there than just buying one in decent condition.
The only exception to this is if your goal is to build something completely custom and it would be a shame to ‘ruin’ a good, all-original one for what you want to do (like using it as a 24 hours of Lemons racer).

I seem to recall this being sold as a good restoration canidate:

While I do agree with everything you say, the condition of the one above has me questioning what could actually be saved. Probably the pressing that runs over the rear axle and not much else...

I see a headlight, the chrome ring around the light and a fender that might be savable... Oh and the VIN itself might be worth something.
And of course all that metal has some value as scrap...

Agreed, and the brake calipers/disc might be saveable, and the same with the wishbones maybe.
Still, I wouldn’t say that’s ‘saving’ the car. More taking parts from this car to save another one :)

Surely the only reason you’d buy that is to ring a dodgy one.

Agreed, or if you’ve got a decent shell but no chassis number so you could transfer it over...

Only thing left is the memories.
